For English learners who are passionate about art and drawing, we can utilize their artwork to teach English skills such as oral storytelling, vocabulary enhancement, reading, writing, and sentence construction. Benson, an eighth grader enrolled in a specialized art class at high school, is one of the students who can benefit from this approach.


對於熱愛藝術與繪畫的英語學習者,我們可以運用他們的藝術作品來教授英語技能,例如口語故事表達、詞彙增進、閱讀、寫作以及句子結構。就讀國中美術班的八年級學生 Benson,便是能夠從這種教學方式中受益的學生之一。


We can start with vocabulary development by encouraging students to brainstorm words they notice in the picture. The objects they draw hold a more personal significance for the learner who created them, making it easier for the learner to remember the vocabulary associated with their life experiences.


我們可以先從詞彙發展開始,鼓勵學生腦力激盪,說出他們在圖片中觀察到的詞語。學生所畫出的物件,對創作者本身而言承載著更個人化的意義,因此學習者也更容易將這些詞彙與自身生命經驗連結,進而加深記憶。




We can then use the main character depicted in the picture as inspiration to craft a short story about the protagonist. By incorporating literary devices like similes, metaphors, and hyperbole, the student learns to create a brief composition using the illustrated subject, providing a more personalized experience in writing a short story.


我們接著可以運用圖片中描繪的主角作為靈感,創作一篇關於這位主人翁的短篇故事。透過融入明喻、隱喻與誇飾等文學修辭手法,學生能學習如何以插畫中的角色為核心,撰寫一篇簡短的作品,讓短篇故事寫作成為更具個人化與創意的體驗。



Finally, we can convert images into text, creating a tailored reading passage for the student to read and improve their reading comprehension. The integration of words and images enriches the student's grasp of the material.


Given that the art student has already invested considerable time in creating a picture, we can utilize it as English material to assist the learner in combining their artistic efforts with learning English.


最後,我們可以將圖像轉化為文字,創造出專屬於學生的閱讀文本,讓學生透過閱讀提升閱讀理解能力。文字與圖像的結合,也能加深學生對學習內容的掌握與理解。

由於藝術學生已經投入大量時間完成作品,我們可以進一步將這些作品轉化為英文教材,幫助學生把自己的藝術創作與英文學習結合起來。
