Narrative Art from Comics

Instead of replicating exactly, we "sample" visual elements from references and adjust certain angles, experimenting with perspective:

Many teenagers enjoy mangas and animes. But what about those who have a deep love for both mangas and cats? Enter the popular graphic novel series, Warriors. This series follows the adventures of Rusty, a former house cat, as he becomes part of the warrior clans.

In addition to its captivating story plot, the graphic novel features remarkable artwork in the low fantasy comic style. We now have the ideal resource to introduce teens to reading and the creation of narrative visual art. Teens learn storytelling techniques, lens angles, perspective, figure drawing, and caricature in the hybrid art project. In the meantime, students learn from drawing thumbnails for compositional and value planning to cat anatomy and refining forms.

This project is currently in its early phase, and the completed work will include several vibrant comic strips on 4K paper. Each week, students are tasked with reading assigned book pages. It's an effective incentive for teenagers who typically don't read English books to complete an entire graphic novel.

Regarding what happens next in the teen artist's cat protagonist's adventure into the park, he discovers an ancient, mysterious tree trunk that has been resting on the ground for centuries,....to be continued.

許多青少年都喜歡漫畫（manga）和動畫（anime）。但如果有人同時深深熱愛漫畫和貓咪呢？這時，就不得不提到廣受歡迎的圖像小說系列《戰士》（Warriors）。這套作品講述了原本是家貓的拉斯提（Rusty）如何加入貓族戰士部落，並展開一連串冒險的故事。

除了引人入勝的故事情節之外，這套圖像小說還展現了令人驚豔的低奇幻漫畫風格藝術。我們現在擁有了一個理想的媒介，能夠帶領青少年進入閱讀與敘事視覺藝術創作的世界。在這項結合文學與藝術的創作計畫中，學生將學習各種說故事技巧、鏡頭角度、透視法、人物繪畫以及漫畫式誇飾表現（caricature）。同時，學生也會從繪製縮圖草稿（thumbnails）來規劃構圖與明暗價值開始，進一步學習貓咪解剖結構以及如何精緻化造型。

目前，這個專題仍處於初期階段，完成後的作品將包含數幅繪製於四開紙上的色彩鮮豔漫畫作品。每週，學生都需要閱讀指定頁數的書籍。對於平時不太閱讀英文書籍的青少年而言，這是一種相當有效的激勵方式，鼓勵他們完成整本英文圖像小說的閱讀。

至於接下來會發生什麼事呢？這位青少年藝術家筆下的貓咪主角在公園探險時，發現了一截神秘而古老的樹幹，它已經靜靜地躺在地上數百年……故事，未完待續。
